The desert can be a crazy place, sometimes it's like the getto with sand and cactus but way better looking and a lot less Canadian if you know what I mean. A few weeks ago our local press (Tri City News) wrote a story about the Asbury Park Casino Shoe that was released in June 2008, they got the story all wrong and focused on the exploitation of the town that Nike supposedly took. After a knock on there door and a lot of hate mail they gave us the "Skateboarders Of Asbury" a chance to let everyone know what that time and that place meant to us and exactly why the shoe was made:

Clearly stated on this newspaper’s website are the words that read “The triCityNews is an alternative newspaper focusing on the arts, culture and politics in eastern Monmouth County, New Jersey.” Their mission...”to identify and promote the creative and alternative throughout the area. We have placed particular emphasis on promoting the restoration of Asbury Park to its rightful place as one of the great progressive and multicultural small cities in this country”.

While we (the skateboarders of Asbury Park) are not writing to debate any of those statements, we are disappointed with the editorial that ran on December 16, 2010. On the cover of that week’s paper was a thumbnail image of a shoe, created by Nike, for the long departed Casino Skatepark with a caption that read ‘Nike Exploits Asbury’. Opening to the feature story, the reader is welcomed by these words ‘Nike Jumps On The Asbury Bandwagon’.

We are not sure what bandwagon the paper was referring but let’s start by bringing the public up to speed about what exactly was transpiring at the Casino Skatepark and Asbury Park in 1997.

Geographically, the Casino Skatepark was located at the South end of the Asbury Park boardwalk and was in operation during a time better left forgotten. Somewhere between the city’s glory days and its recent facelift, the Casino Skatepark was built and run by skateboarders. There was no better example of arts, culture and independent thought in Asbury Park, especially in the late 1990‘s, than the events that took place over the course of two short years at Casino Skatepark.

Back in 1997 a group of skateboarders secured permission to build a skatepark at the Casino. It was completed and opened in 1998 without any press releases or public accolades, and limited (to say the least) support from its landlord, The City of Asbury Park. Providing inexpensive rent was just about the least the City could do...and that is just what they did, the least they could do. The heating, plumbing and structural repairs were all done by the skateboarders, each lending their skills from each trade, on their own dime.

Once opened, the staff at the Casino Skatepark reached out to Vans Shoes to make them aware of the park and see if Vans had any interest in supporting it. What came out of those discussions was a relationship between the park and Vans that would 1) make Casino Skatepark a part the 1998 Warped Tour, using their indoor bowl at the Casino for the Warped Tour competition and 2) release a Casino Skatepark Tribute shoe. During and after the Warped Tour, the Casino Skatepark would double as a music venue, hosting bands like Murphy's Law, Lords of Brooklyn, Lord Sterling & The Bouncing Souls.

Equally as important as the contribution the venue made to skateboarding and music communities (both locally and nationally) was its influence with the urban youth. Countless kids from broken homes and less than suitable family situations found not just shelter at the skatepark, but a welcoming into a world of sharing, experiencing and learning that they had never gotten at home or even at their schools. It wasn’t unusual to see school books at the skate shop counter and kids being helped with homework before, during or after skate sessions.

After the park closed, many of the key figures involved with Casino Skatepark went on to make their mark in the skateboard industry as professional skaters, writers, skatepark designers and even into the skateboard footwear market. One of these individuals while working for Nike, approached the company with an idea of a tribute shoe. A shoe to show respect for a time and a place in the lives the skateboarders of this community as not just a place of business but as a place many called home. A place where community and creativity came first above and before media accolades, public accepted and even money.

As we mentioned before, we’re not too sure what bandwagon this paper was alluding to in the piece of December 16, 2010, but this shoe represents Asbury Park from a time when the Asbury bandwagon appeared to have been car jacked, taken for a joyride and stripped for parts (and tax credits).

It was the skateboarders of the community that made these things a reality. The events that transpired at the Casino Skatepark and later at the Deal Lake Pool have been documented in magazines, books and film. People around the world recognized the hard work and dedication of skateboarders who cared for a city when it appeared that even it’s town fathers had become dead-beat Dads. It thrived long before the art galleries, coffee shops and bars that offer canned beer on the same drink list as martinis would line the downtown streets, walking a fine line between gentrification and homogenization.

If and when another skate shop or skate park opens in Asbury park, its legacy will not be defined by whether it ‘furthers the cultural stock’ of the street where it lives, simply adding another piece to some jigsaw puzzle of a downtown scene. It should provide the skaters of this community with a voice and an outlet to be creative both on and off their boards, showcasing the art and music that comes from this creatively in a way that hasn’t been represented in this city since the Casino Skatepark closed its doors.

The story of December 16, 2010 so enraged all those involved with the Casino Skatepark that it triggered an endless trail of emails and phone calls. We, as the skateboarders of Asbury Park, are not here to further any political debate over how Asbury Park should or should not look, how it should be represented or what business should or should not come into town. All we wanted to be able to do is present the facts about how the Casino Skatepark Shoe came to be.

The triCity News has made this space available to us (the skateboarders of Asbury Park) to voice our response to that article and we are thankful to be able to present the readers a small peek into an influential part of this city’s history. There were many involved with the skatepark and no names were mentioned in this article because, just like skateboarding, the Casino Skatepark was a group effort and no individuals meant more than the collective whole of the family that it became and always will be.

There two sides to every story. The triCity News voiced their opinion on December 16 and the skateboarders of Asbury Park have voiced theirs. Now that both sides have had their say, we can all move forward. Who knows, maybe one day we can all get together and laugh about this over a couple of grande mocha frappuccinos at the new Starbucks on the Asbury boardwalk. Kidding.

With spring coming a lot of the guys have been out skating more and more, these days there seems to be a bunch of new kids popping up everywhere you go. Donny's been hitting Asbury a lot and met a few local kids that skate down there every day, kids that share one skateboard between 3 of them. Anyone that skates knows this ain't the way it should be, I mean what fun is it sitting there watching your friend skate when the whole point of skating is to skate "with" your friends, at the spots, down the street, basically anywhere and everywhere you can. When he came to me the other day asking if there was any extra product laying around for these kids and told me there deal it was something I didn't have to give a second thought too. Today we threw some completes together, grabbed some extra T's, hats, shoes and anything we could find that would get these kids stoked. Sometimes I forget why I picked up a skateboard 25 years ago, it's been so long you tend to forget the way it was and just see the way it is, now a days its pure bullshit, everyone wants to be the next big pro or every local kid in the park thinks he deserves free product cause they "think" there the best around here, well I got a news flash for yah, these kids deserve the product more then anyone I've met, they skate to skate and don't know or care about being sponsored or the next local pro. All in all I guess when you come from nothing you seem to appreciate the finer things in life when it's given to yah, things like a skateboard.

Arizona.... what can I say, it might just be the best place in the US, aside from Jersey of course, but the locals kept saying " why did you bring Jersey to us". Why you ask, well it rained more in the week we were there then they seen in years, winds up to 80 miles a hour, just ask Fred, he circled Phoenix for 3 hours on a flight in from Miami, ran low on fuel, flew to Vegas to refuel and then back to Phoenix to circle for another 3 hours till the pilot decided they couldn't land and had to fly back to Vegas for the night, this guy spent a whole day in a plane and didn't even leave the country, talk about a great start to a trip....
Anyways once the crew got grounded things picked up as usual, lots of food, lots of beer, cars full of people, lots of driving, lots of gambling, pool games, broken sticks, slapping bouncers, riding in the back of pick up trucks, food, beer, A girl named Kelly Clarkson pissing in a urinal and then posing for the camera, a girl in a ditch and then her showing us how to stretch, cowboy Bill Strobeck, half sack Austin Gillette, Spiderman, What the Heck( worst dude ever), Poker with the Jaws family, Fred hearing a ghost at "4 AM" ring the door bell then knock on the door, Lady Ga Ga, food , beer, and everything else to make this a real shit show, oh wait we skated too.....
All in all AZ was worth every minute, it has been over 5 years since I've been there and I forgot how much that place ruled. Thanks to Matt Price and the homeys for putting up with us NJ Scum and the ones left standing, compensation is on the way. As for me, I got right off the plane and went straight to Asbury for some food and beer. It's no AZ but its were I'm from and trust me that's the best trip of them all.

These skate tours are starting to get relentless as fuck, same old shit, different place, not that that's a bad thing. This time it was a full blown camping mission, and none of that sissy shit were the sites got showers and bathrooms, this was a full blown bird bath in a gas station sink and wipe your ass with a leaf camp trip, I personally only got 2 showers the whole time and that was just luck, one being before I got on the plane to go home, lucky them......
Normally I'd write some crazy story about this and that but I think this time after going through 100+ photos I could just pick the best and caption them off and you'll all get the big picture......

What are your 5 favorite metal albums of all time?
Off the top of my head in no order I'd say Megadeth "Peace Sells", Slayer "Reign In Blood", King Diamond "Fatal Portrait", Testament "The Gathering", and last but not least Black Sabbath "Black Sabbath" These are just the albums that you can put in and listen to front to back and they just fit.

We've been skating since we were kids. Paths cross and only a few of us made it this far. You're now in your 30's still riding on the regular. What part of your anatomy bothers you the most?
Pretty much everything hurts at some point but I'd say my knees are the worst followed up by back, neck and i get some wicked shin splints from time to time. I got a pulled rotator cuff witch should be the worse but for some reason it's pretty mellow right now.

I pop a lot of pain killers to keep my body numb.What's your relief method?
I guess i kinda suck it up, take a day or two off and use a lot of ice and balms. i rarely ever take pills anymore for pain, its gotta be real bad for that. I try to keep in better shape, I feel if I just stay active I have a easier time with the pain and getting hurt.

Early 90's METAL Philly night missions. What was it like skating on acid?
Well I guess it was fun at the time, we were on some sick shit back then, it was straight sleep all day and skate all night till dawn, true vampires. Those days are long gone and even though they were good times I'm glad I'm not on that schedule any more that's for sure.

I remember your cameo in the Sub Zero video during that era. I also remember going to LOVE during that era and seeing a lot of fights and board-jacking. Do you remember that period?
I remember it all, most of that shit was just stupid. One time were all sitting there and one of those ghetto kids came up asking to ride our boards, i was like fuck this and skated away but Ruwadi said sure cause it was one of Steve's boys, well the mother fucker skated off and right outta the park. The fights happened all the time, bums, skaters, you'd see it all at some point. It came down to it were we'd skate love at 2 in the morning spun out, those right there were the best sessions ever then we'd creep into the subways and things really got interesting.

What's harder to break out of... bad relationship or a drug habit?
I could say drugs are way easier to kick that's for sure, relationships not so easy.

Skateboarding wasn't cool when we were kids. We were outcasts. Only a certain type of person would skate. Now that shit is prime time entertainment. What happen?
Yea it is what it is that's for sure but I think were still outcasts, none of the people I skate with fit that image there portraying on TV. I just can't get over the kids that come in the shop sweating those clowns, I never took skateboarding for that, its just weird, back in the day all we had were mags and vids now its everywhere on TV and they even got there own channel i think, fool TV....

What do you think made the first METAL video "D.O.D." stand out so much in the endless sea of typical skate videos?
I guess cause we've been around so long but kept it underground, it was like the first major video we did, after that came out some people were saying they been waiting a long time for that. It was good to do, I wasn't really into it at the time now wishing I was but it's all good.

That shit is almost 3 years old now but I think more people are getting interested after seeing that piece in Transworld and now that Steve Durante is finally getting his name out there and of course Freddys' part and Bill Danforth.
Whose going to have full parts in "LAST CALL"?
Its hard to say, i think its gonna be a pretty short vid but that's what i thought about the last one and it was like 40 minutes. For parts Me, Fred, Steve for sure, hopefully you, there will be a pretty big friends section cause a lot of the guys that had parts in the last one ain't up to it now, Times change and a lot of the guys have moved on, got married, got jobs, totally went insane or just had other normal life changes. Aside from Last Call there might be a Metal documentary also in the works.

What's your take on the current New Jersey skate scene, including shops?
Well I don't really follow cliques or crews, you see them here and there, some are cool some are fool, i guess it just depends on who were talking about. It's always nice when you get these clowns that come outta the blue with some cheesy skate company or shop and start running there bizz around being from Jersey, I mean we've been doing this for 13 years, longer than anyone here and when we started focusing on Jersey as a company people were getting down on it and saying it wont go anywhere outside of here. Now it's like cool to do that, its played out big time. Just look how many people are trying to claim Asbury Park, when i see that shit i laugh, I mean were all OG Casino heads here, and the ones that ran the up keep on that pool, unless you can say that ya might as well fuck off.
As far as shops, the ones sell our shit are real supportive and always keep shit stocked, Barewires, NJ, DE, Domestics, Standard, those are the only shops that matter and are true to our cause.

Skate politics is a shady bitch but I think it's necessary to keep the blood flowing. Sometimes people need to get dealt with. Have you run into any shady dealings running METAL all these years?
Of course, In the begging like 95-96 this whole company was based on shady, I mean half the guys not with us anymore is cause they did or were doing shady shit, got caught, got banned, whatever, its just not my deal, i don't have time for that shit anymore.

Are there any new METAL/HABITAT collaborations in the works?
We'll see, Freddy might do another Metal guest board for the fall/winter, theres a Habitat/Metal deck out now and I got some other shit in the works but it has nothing to do with skating so we'll see.

Where to start.......
Our good friends at Nine Lives Skateshop had us out to Jersey City Saturday afternoon to do a demo at an arts festival were they close off the street and have a block party. At first I figured it was gonna be all art fags which there were but I was surprised to find a decent amount or normal people there, and about 100 skaters showed up which I was really surprised about. When we got there it was pretty mellow, we skated, some a lot less then others but hell when the beer started showing up how can you focus on skating anyways, it was one big party. Over the next hour our crew grew and grew, ya had our Local 666 Metal crew which was about 8 deep and then Jersey Dave and his crew rolled up and as I turn the other way I see our NYC crew which was pretty tight cause Jad & Johnny brought some fine FIT ladies with them and that's always a treat and just when i though it was over here comes the Wolfpack. At this point were holding it down with over 20 heads on the side line and pretty much just hanging with all the kids that came down to see us skate. As I look around I keep seeing more and more 30 packs showing up, about 90 beers in all and this is were things went down hill..... But Not For Us!
If you know this crew you know after a few beers were like a fined tuned machine, at this point it was time to lurk. I had my eyes on a tight pair of leather pants, Dave was all about the FIT-ites, the Wolfpack was all over each other, not that theres anything wrong with that, and everyone else was on camera duties or just doing there own thing. This went on for about a hour and people weren't really feeling our crew except for the kids that skated and knew what was up and that was a perfect time for the product to be tossed, off a roof that is. Freddy jumps up on this roof and onto the fire escape at this point the fire marshals are tripping yelling for him to get down but all these kids are waiting for the product to fly so in true Metal fashion he just starts chucking shit off and the kids go nuts.This homo in a V-neck comes running over screaming at Josh from 9-Lives telling him to stop all this right away, now if you ever been in or near a product toss ya damn well know it just don't stop. After all the smoke cleared we were told to take our party around the block and we were told we couldn't drink our beer and had to pay for beers, I guess these guys didn't realize us coming there brought in all these skaters that were eating and buying shit but whatever it was time to wait for night to fall.....
Once this happened it was all down hill, everyone was getting sick, Fred lost his keys which put my car at 11 passengers, we were all wet from skating and it was getting cold out and we tried to go skate a "private" ramp, now that's a whole nother story but guys ya think i never picked a lock like that before, can't wait to see ya around some of our "private" spots. I dropped 4 off at the train and the rest just drove home and that's about all i could take for the day. I'm glad were done for the winter,maybe we'll be back doing this stuff next spring.... maybe not.

Friday afternoon we headed up to Connecticut for the 4th annual American Nomad BBQ. The weekend started out nice but i knew what was to follow in the coming days. On arrival we got there early enough to skate the ramp for a bit and cook some steaks before setting up the camp site. That night I woke up to some rain but by morning it was over and it started to dry up, or so I thought. We got out early and went right to Weathersfield skate park and dried it up enough to skate but that only lasted about 2 hours. Everyone was still in skate mode and I was out voted so we ended up driving down to Academy Skatepark. They built some ghetto concrete in the lot so i ended up skating that for a bit and most of the other guys just walked in and skated the mini. Once I cracked a beer and sat on the bumper to relax the next thing you know, one by one everyone starts coming out, funny how things work. We pretty much drove down there to have a party in the lot, that was till the rain started to pick up, the bitch had finally arrived!!! We figured it be a good time to head back witch was away from the storm. On the way back there was a Cabela's near the camp site so we hit it up for awhile, about 3 hours, I mean this place is big and it was a nice stop to clean up, shit and piss and anything else we had to do like pick up a few toys, yup right to the gun department. After talking to the sales man he made it clear we would not be able to buy any guns that day but pointed us to the automatic BB Guns and said there just as good but all you need is to be 18 and we were sold. Now it was about 5 o'clock and I wanted to get back to make sure all our gear was dry before the full storm hit, well that was just a dream cause on the way it hit. The rain was so bad we were doing about 35mph on the highway and the wind was insane. When we got back everything was bone dry, well almost everything. Will Beaver forgot to drag his tent under our big tarped out area and there was a full on lake in there. No worries for me or any of the other guys so we went right to what we do best, food and drinks. BBQing in a hurricane is not the easiest thing, its dark and windy and you cant tell if the food cooked or not although we found out the next morning it really wasn't.

The Day After

The next day we woke to sunshine and it dried up quick so we broke down camp and started the day off, dumps in the woods and McDonald's breakfast never felt so good. I guess we woke everyone up from the guys who were skating and the rest of us shooting guns and then people started showing up and the food started to cook. We hung out there all day, watched Bill have his front rock contest, stared at a pair of boobs, ate some raw food and even got to see Hippie Dave shoot Will Beaver in the leg with the BB gun witch was my highlight of the day. After all this it was time to head home, we got back to the city around 8 o'clock and hung out on my favorite block for a bit before heading back to Jersey. Thanks to Jay Kelly and Bill Danforth for having us out again, like i told them this is the one trip I really look forward to each year so we'll sure as hell see you again in a year.

Long story short we ended up hitting all 5 boro's some how, got to skate a spot right in the middle of a sick chop top car show and ate some good Mexican food. Well right from the start this whole story more then likely won't make a damn bit of sense but its the truth and I just want the right answer.
It's always a good time on the road, more lately then in the past, not sure why but it is, I mean its an easy run anywhere on the east coast, I just go to escape the bullshit and keep my mind off shit and well these guys they just want to skate. Friday night i rallied the local crew and convinced them to go on a camping skate trip for the weekend, kinda like a pre American Nomad BBQ warm up and Connecticut was the destination. When we got up there we really had no were to go so we skated a few parks and tried to find a camp site and as always on nice weekends there is no sites or hotels vacant. At this point we've been in the car for 4 plus hours and needed find a place to stay. We decided to head over to Norwich witch worked out cause Jeff from Worship said he'd put us up and we could camp in his yard so we went right to the store, picked up a big ass bag of hot dogs to grill and a case or King Cobra 40's, this was the point I realized the night was gonna hurt. By the time we got there ate and drank everyone was so fucked up we had quite a hard time setting up camp, so much that only half the guy could get up there tents, I mean common guys, when you turn around and you got the local girls whipping up these tent in a matter of minutes it kinda puts you to shame. After that we got to skate the ramp and see Jad front flip over a fence, hippie Dave pull a Lougains off the deck and Charlie win a game of skate in flip flops. After all this and my usual 2 beers it was time for bed.
The next day we woke up rather early, popped as many Advil's as we could and hit the road, I mean we did come up here to skate, well maybe not. Once we got to the park warmed up and got ready to shoot photos we realized we forgot half the gear, like flash stands, tapes for the camera, oh and the most important thing, Connecticut does not sell beer on Sundays!!!!! Well we shared our last King Cobra, shot photos using zip ties and Dave as our light stands and got some major sunburn. Come 4o'clock it was time to hit the road and with a quick nap stop at Jad's parents so he could shower and then a coffee break we were on our way. Funny how one night could feel like a month, but it always does. Out of all this, whatever this weekend was to each of these guys, the one thing I really want to know is what the hell is "Nuke Gay Whales For Jesus"????? Can someone answer this!

Where have you been riding lately?
Besides hitting up Trenton & NYC for skate purposes, I try to avoid the cities, they're shitholes jam packed with douchebags. Lately I've been mentoring some young guns from my hood. Showing them there's no rules to skateboarding, how anything goes. I got stoked watching them learn wallrides the other day. There's too many Sheckler clones running around skating for the wrong reasons. These are the clowns that inhabit the skateparks. I try to stay away from the skatepark situation. Skateparks are like a retirement home. Everything is laid out for you perfect. You get spoiled. You forget how sick bombing a hill is or skating through traffic.

What are your thoughts on the current skate scene?
It's nice to be able to really say what I think because I don't depend on skateboarding for anything. I have nothing to sell you. Most people in the industry have tape over their mouth. This year appears to be the year of the do it yourself joke skate company & do it yourself wanna-be Transworld videos. They're coming out of the woodwork like cockroaches. Swamp Ass Skateboards represent. If your one of these guys doing these art fag skate videos, cut it out. All these wacky motherfuckers are pro now. Being "pro" don't mean shit no more. It's a freakshow out there. It's also funny when new videos come out from big companies and nobody buys it because it's already on You Tube.

Why did you take your name off the Asbury Metal board?
Because I wasn't skating on that level anymore and I didn't wanna front. I'm 34 years old. I didn't want to kill myself anymore. I got married. Spending more time with my children. There's alot of reasons. I'm stoked the Asbury graphic is the top selling single board in Jersey for like 3 years straight. Casino!

So what's it like skating at 34?
I look at the Gonz whose like 40 and he keeps me from being a complete pile. Pain killer abuse and avoiding stairs helps. Bottom line is I'm a skateboarder, an outsider, and I'll be riding until my body quits taking orders.

Do kids still recognize you from your Love Park trick?
Yeah. I still get the "You're the guy that airwalked Love!" from kids all the time. That was 10 years ago but I don't think I'll ever live that shit down. I thought about going back to land the pop-shuvit Japan but never got the balls up.

Who gets the nod?
My wife Stephanie who works at Slut Hut for killing Celebrity Biank. Lou for holding Metal down through all the bullshit. We own Jersey. Anyone else that hooks it up, Darin at Nike and Jad at Agent Orange Photos.

The annual Amateur Athlete demo was yesterday and what can i say, we spent more time harassing the skanks selling raffle tickets then skating that's for sure, in fact I didn't even touch a skateboard except to skate to the pizza shop for a slice. This month has been one busy one for most us with a lot of road time and miles put in. Fred went on the first leg of the Indy 30 year tour, came home then decided to get us to go on part of the second leg but first jump onto the Habitat cross country tour. Two days after he got home we packed the car with all the gear and drove out to Cincinnati OH to meet up with Joe Brook to finish there tour with them. The first day we met Brook who had just picked up Peabody from the Greyhound station. Straight off the bat we start driving around looking for spots and take a wrong turn ending up in the pit of shit ditch, this is a giant skinny concrete vert ramp. Peabody jumped right in, rolled in and broke his wrist. This kid spend almost 40 hours on a bus and now first hit outta the van and splat. Like the trooper he is he got right up and killed the shit ditch. After that we headed up to Dayton to a private back yard pool were Silas, Stephan and Peabody initiated this thing. From this night on the tour just went like any other normal tour but then it was time to go out to Skatetopia to meet the Indy crew............ now things got interesting!

SKATETOPIA
Well if you been there you know, if you haven't you herd the stories. This place is hands down the craziest skate spot on the face of the earth, anything goes and trust me it did. This weekend consisted of thousands of freaks, mud and more fireworks then the Macy's forth of July spectacular. There was little or no sleeping had and if we were lucky we ate. the first night all the freaks were out, topless scags were creeping all over. I finally went to bed at dawn yet to be woken up by Fred a little over an hour later telling me they trashed some car up on the hill so i walked up there to see a destroyed car and when i asked someone what happened they said some drunk girl tried to leave but hit 3 cars on the way out, witch was not good for her. After that I pretty much slept all day and then about 6o'clock the Indy guys rolled up a full 24 hours late. Seems like the Indy hot rod was no more, it broke down somewhere outside of Pittsburgh PA so they left it. Half the crew spent the night and the others headed out to louisville witch was the next stop. I stayed up till about 4am to watch Nylist play then it was off to bed, if you can call it that, a full 4 hours. The next morning we said goodbye to skatetopia and headed out to Louisville KY for a little all night skate shesh.

LOUISVILLE
Everyone was burned out by this point, half the people stayed at the hotel and caught up on sleep and the rest went to the park to skate. We were there till about 4am before we went back to the hotel. The next day we went to the park for a few hours and then tried to skate all the local spot but it seemed like the cops were following us everywhere. It was a never ending battle so at that time the Indy crew was out and we were heading home, a 14 hour drive home, But it didn't end there.....

HOMEWARD BOUND
We made it far that night, a full 2 hours to Cincinnati were we crashed out at Tony Hietz house. The next day we left at 10am. After about 5 hours we were driving through Wheeling WV and I hear Fred scream out "theres a skate park". Wheeling built a huge Grindline park so we spent a few hours there of course, it was a good break from the road but it seems Fred, Steve, and Andrew had a different idea for a good break. They new of a little tin roof shack strip club right outside of town. I refused, we still had a good 6 or 7 hour drive and all i wanted was to get home. Fred made a bet if he backside noseblunted the bank to curb I'd take them there but if he didn't we'd make a quick stop for pizza instead, a fair bet, they get strippers or I get food. Well lets just say i didn't eat that day but I did get a good hour sleep in the parking lot that's for sure. We got in around 2am and that night was the best sleep I got this whole trip.

24 Hours And Then Some

Last weekend we took a little 2day trip to Connecticut to skate some parks, as always it was some interesting times. I'm gonna just sum it up with a few words and leave it at that:
Academy park is killer, but after hours is for there "team" only to skate in the dark under construction lights, hope that went well guys.....

Sunday was a flip flop kinda day and we met Lord Vader at Groten skate park.

Sunday we headed up to CT for a little skate park action. We got a good crew together got our mascot GD the half human dog and jumped in the car. Of course when all these people are together the joke cracking begins and you can tell who can take it and who can't when you see the car doors open and people try to jump out at 80 mph. G-Dog is one of those guys who can dish it but can't take it, and he knows it's always gonna happen so who the fuck knows why he even goes on these trips with us, but like the saying goes "Ya can't teach a old dog new tricks". Anyways we finally get up there to Haven Skatepark which to tell ya the truth is built as a biker park but we had our tranny fanny's so it was pretty much on. Frank hit his head due to some pudgy midget roller blader waxing the fucking quaterpipe. When we tried to ask him nicely "please don't wax over here" his excuse was "dude its a skatepark", WTF that's has to do with it is beyond me. You'd think the park would have a little more control over gays waxing but i guess they could care less. Over all the park ain't that bad if you ride big tranny but if you hate bikes, blades, wax and want more street like stuff ya might just want to stay away. They also got a nice looking bowl going up with a full pipe but it has no flat bottom what so ever (for bikes) but seems like a very slow building proses.
After that we headed in NYC to drop one of our friends off. He's goes to school at FIT and we lurked around there for a bit until i mistaken a guy in a wig for a hot chick, at that point I decided it was time to leave......

So we skate all day saturday even at night, and the news guy says 90% chance of rain in the valley (phoinex) so tim and I are like yeah fuckn finally some guilt free hangover time, long story short we wake up its beautiful, not too hot, just perfect and we get to skate this permission pool that is rarely going. Steven killed it, Tim filmed, Brad killed it and I left early to watch the super bowl which I was so siked on. Day three was something else and I'll try to keep it short and sweet. We drove out to Johnathan's parents house witch was out in the sticks to hang out for a couple of hours. Sat night we got all call from Johnathan telling us he had a spot to skate in Richmond, the spot was called Hell and was in the basement of an apartment. When me & Fred herd that we were in. I mean could this be it, A gateway to Hell, something we searched an eternity for? We packed our bags and headed down, on the way kidnapping Pete Milanko, Tim O' and Jack Sabbath.
On arrival the house looked normal as could be on the outside but as we entered the feeling of Satan himself was upon us. The basement was dark as night even the lights that were on had a ghoulish tint to them. This ramp we drove 5 hours for was Hell for sure and it was surrounded by all sorts of spray paintings and hangings on the walls. At the far end of the ramp there was a pump hump into a very dark corridor that no one dared to enter, the sign said detour to hell. We skated the ramp for a good hour or two and then when we were about to leave Fred says I'm going into HELL! He dropped in and took the detour to hell, it was quite loud and you could hear the screams of the demon's and burning virgins as he came flying out onto his back. When he stood up you could see his shirt was torn off and there was blood dripping from his knuckles. I'm not sure what happened in there but he refused to talk about it and was quite shook. At that point we got out of there and went to our hotel. in the morning we all woke up saying the sleep was good and everyone was quite refreshed but not Fred, he said he slept for two hours if that and had nightmares all night. I guess he really did go to HELL!!!!!

Today Andrew, Steve and John went to court, they were rescheduled for next month, looks like Texas II Tour will be going down mid January. After that we tried to motivate with a few games of skate then headed out. Wile following Guru we got lost and ended up in a strange little vato/voodoo kinda part of town were there was a church bus with skulls all over it and the gate to the church was all prehistoric. After that we found our way to some trife industrial spots, most of us just sat there trying to hit bottles off the tracks with rocks wile Guru and Steve got there shred on. As night fell we had to say goodbye to Johnathan, he had to drive up to Dallas were this tour was suppose to go and end yesterday, maybe next time well have better luck with that law. 1 down 4 to go, 2 days left.

We left Austin early afternoon and headed to a small town on the way back to Houston. In this town there's a old community pool that local skater built up in to a mini skate park. The whole ride there everyone we talked to had crazy stories of this town, how it was known for its meth labs and everyone there was tweaked, well when we got there i realized everything they said was true. The smell of ether was in the air, there were zombies walking the street, and every single house looked like a crack shack, it kinda made us feel kinda safe. Its pretty bad when you feel safer and more comfortable in a town like that then you would in a rich community were everyone has money and big houses. We stayed there till sunset then headed out. On the way back to H-town we got pulled over and speeding/open container tickets were handed out to all, gotta love Texas. Were 5 for 5, every single person that flew in for this tour got tickets and or spent a night in jail, what are the odds of that.

We drove to Austin early Wednesday morning. The drive consisted of nothing more that dodging road rubble, tires, caucuses, sunroofs flying off other cars landing about 10 feet in front of us, weird and strange billboards, and your occasional "YERP". We even saw this full pipe on the back of a truck and followed it 50 miles out of the way just to skate it. When we arrived the weather was questionable but managed to get a few hours before it rained. Looks like its gonna be a full moon tonight.....

Last night me and Freddy went to check out the Division East promo vid premier up in North Jersey. The shop was packed, the DJ was a spinning and beers were a flowing, plus Jersey Dave was in rare form wicth was a treat. After we stoped off at QC for some tastey deli sandwiches.
